UCT marketing postgrad heading for brand and sports marketing

I combine marketing strategy with psychology, and I've already built an audience by sharing what locals know and tourists don't.

About

I'm a marketing postgrad at UCT. I came in through politics and organisational psychology, so I usually start with why people behave the way they do.

Outside class I run Sidequests, an Instagram series on the Cape Town spots locals actually go to, including when to go.

Rugby taught me that you can't ask more of people than you're willing to give yourself.

Proof

Leading from the front

Situation
In 2022, after COVID, our first team was unfit and unmotivated.
What I did
As vice-captain, I trained in the gym three days a week and at practice the other three, and brought teammates along with me.
Result
We won 80% of our matches and set the school's record scoreline, 55-0.

Sidequests

Situation
Cape Town guides miss what only locals know.
What I did
I created a named Instagram series showing local spots and the best times to visit them.
Result
About 1,000 followers and an average of around 200 likes per post.

The Spur insight

Situation
Spur live brief for an IMC plan, where I owned the consumer insight and strategic context.
What I did
I found that people still value in-person connection but feel safer being themselves behind a screen.
Result
That tension became the consumer insight behind my section of our group pitch.
